Accertify Highlighted as a Key Provider in New Report on CNP Fraud

As the global market for e-commerce grows, so does e-commerce fraud. Merchants, especially those who have been hit hard by fraud losses, are looking for ways to protect themselves. Card associations and acquirers-issuers offer both a mixture of front-end and back-end tools, while a handful of specialist fraud solutions providers are vying for share in the increasingly competitive and consolidated back-end space. Acquirers and payment gateways are still trying to decide which fraud prevention tools to promote.

In an attempt to explore this problem in greater depth, UK-based KAE spoke qualitatively to a cross-section of issuing banks, acquiring banks, payment processors, payment gateways, fraud solution providers, industry experts, and large merchants (primarily spanning the travel and e-tail sectors) in four regions (Europe, North America, Latin America and Asia-Pacific).

Presenting its findings in a Card Community White Paper (download attachment below), KAE identified a growing trend towards outsourcing or collaboration with specialist third-party fraud solution providers, whose expertise and tools are generally valued over those of the payment card companies.  In the U.S., Accertify is one of the most commonly cited providers on the forefront of this trend, according to the white paper.

The key benefits of third-party collaboration include tool integration/streamlining, cross-industry positive/negative data sharing (a key desire for most merchants, who might join a certain provider in the knowledge that their peers are also doing so), flexibility (e.g. the fact that their provider can easily collaborate with other more specific providers such as 192.com or Experian, for convenience and value for money).

KAE concluded that back-end tools are of greater importance to merchants than their front-end counterparts. Many merchants, especially those in the travel and entertainment industries (e.g. airlines) boast highly sophisticated rules engines and scoring systems which are constantly evolving or adapted to fraud levels, customers and business models.

These programs are mostly automated but also depend on manual review. The universal goal for all merchants is to improve these rules and scoring processes further, accelerating automated verification and reducing both the number of manual reviews required and the time taken to review them.
